Dubai’s Old Souk, also known as the Textile Souk or the Bur Dubai Souk, is located in the heart of Bur Dubai and consists of long row of stalls that sell all sorts of fabrics, clothes, shoes and souvenirs. The semi-covered souk is Dubai’s oldest and occupies a restored bazaar, that was once the most important in the city.
As we wander through the souk, vendors approach us from all angles, wrapping fabrics around us and almost dragging us into their shops. Shops selling pashminas in a huge variety of colours and made from all sorts of different fabrics can be found every few metres. “We don’t make the pashminas here”, says the vendor of one shop, “in Dubai we make buildings”.
