Fairy Tern

These birds mate for life and, if one should die, the other will spend the rest of its life alone. Young terns will stay with their parents until they mate.

Fairy terns do not build nests, instead they find a branch where there is a knot or a fork to support the egg (they only lay one egg at a time). The female will sit on the egg to prevent it from falling and when it hatches, 21 days later, the chick will cling onto the branch with its large, clawed feet.
