Allergies are more than just an annoyance. All of the sniffling and sneezing can make it hard for your kids to concentrate at school and disrupt their academic performance. In a survey of 1,000 families, parents of children with nasal allergies were 50 percent more likely to agree that allergies affected their daily activities. Luckily, there are some steps you can take to fight back against these harmful symptoms.
Improve Indoor Air Quality
Your home should be a sanctuary, not a repository for the allergens that cause your child to break out in sneezes. Make sure the air in your home is clean by changing the air filter for your HVAC system on a regular basis. Additionally, schedule regular maintenance and add a whole-home purifier.
Use Allergy-Proof Bedding
About 80 percent of people with seasonal allergies report having trouble sleeping. Make sure your children are having a good night’s rest by using allergy-proof pillows, box springs, and mattresses. In particular, you’ll want to find a woven fabric that has a pore size of less than 6 micrometers.
Change Your Diet
What you eat can have a big effect on allergies. If your children are having a severe outbreak, give them apple cider vinegar, local raw honey, and nettle tea, as these are all proven methods for reducing symptoms. Additionally, adding in more omega-3s and fruits to their diet can strengthen their immune systems.
