The greenshank is widespread throughout Africa and are migratory birds that breed across Eurasia from Northern Scotland to Russia and the Far East. They are rarely seen in groups and usually found in twos or individually. It is the largest species in the genus Tringa and is an elegant wading bird.
These birds feed on crustaceans, mollusks, small worms, amphibians and small fish. They generally feed by pecking as they wade through shallow water and will often stalk fish or shrimps before making a rapid dash to snatch the prey.
