Looking for a book club but for films?
Me too! Film fans, assemble!
There is a sea of film podcasts out there. Luckily, they come in all shapes, sizes and varieties so you’ll want to subscribe to more than just a few. Whether you’re looking for a classic movies podcast that gives you behind the scenes information or a comedic look at your favourite movies, I’m certain there’s a new podcast for you here.
I listened to 150+ and these are the best film podcasts on Spotify I’ve found so far.
I’ve included my favourite episode to give you an idea why you’ll want to subscribe too.
And also check out my best lists of comedies on Apple TV, Sky TV and documentaries on Netflix.
Never seen it with Kyle Ayers
The film podcast with rewritten scripts and fun games
My girlfriend bought me a ‘100 movies to watch’ poster and I’ve scratched off about half of them. Some popular films that remain on the poster I haven’t seen include Star Wars, Citizen Kane and The Matrix.
Comedian Kyle Ayers’ invites his fellow comedians to rewrite and play out a script for a famous movie or TV show they’ve never seen. Whilst scoring it with kids instruments.
Yep, it’s as ridiculous as it sounds.
The guests change every episode so you’re always getting a new take on good and bad movies seen.
There are also fun quizzes like build the perfect movie (guess two movies whose IMDB score is close to 100% when added together), guess which two films make up this plot (title consists of the two movies cleverly mashed together) and guess what movie my dad is trying to describe having only seen the trailer and having never heard of the movie (actual name of the segment).
I love this podcast so much I subscribe to the Patreon page which has bonus footage and clips.
One of my favourite scripts and readings that never fails to make me laugh is Andrew Collin rewriting A Star is Born. And check out Kyle’s ridiculous photoshopping skills as he adds his guests to the movie they rewrote.

Shat the Movies
The film podcast about 80’s and 90’s films
Are the movies from your childhood as good as you remember them?
Shat The Movies rewatch films from the 80’s and 90’s and discuss whether they’ve got better or worse over time. Does rewatching as an adult make a difference? Who knew for instance that Big starring Tom Hanks is actually a little disturbing and creepy?
Movies covered span all genres and are chosen by the public via poll.
Each podcast asks the team where they when it was released and what do they remember of it. Movies are broken down into five acts where they debate what worked well and funny plot holes. They even play the original movie trailer (makes you realise they used to be so much better).
At the end they rate the movie on their Shat Scale (0 wipes is the perfect movie and 5 is a total mess).
Listen to this episode about the cult classic The Big Lebowski.

Film Quiz Podcast
The film podcast about film quizzes
We need Nick Helm to host more things. Until then we’ll have to settle with him hosting a film quiz with comedians as contestants. It’s worth listening to just for the terrible film puns.

Ever look up a film’s IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes rating and say ‘What?!’. Jacqueline Coley and Mark Ellis analyse whether the Rotten Tomatoes’ score got it right or wrong.
Listen to this episode covering Dwayne Johnson’s hits and misses.
The Villain Was Right
The film podcast which takes the side of the baddies
Villains get a bad rep. But are all of them bad? Do some of them actually have a legitimate case for their actions?
Join comedians Craig Fay and Rebecca Reeds as they discuss and argue that the baddies were actually in the right.
Listen to this funny look at one of my favourite films, 10 Things I Hate About You.
Script Apart
The film podcast about 1st draft scripts
Why do writers make the choices they make when writing a script?
More importantly, why do they make the edits they make?
Scripts Apart breaks down movies by asking the screenwriter what changed from the 1st draft to what we see on the big screen. It’s a fantastic inside look into how scripts work, especially when invoking certain emotions and the roles supporting characters contribute to the overall picture.
I loved listening to Kemp Powers describe how the main characters changed during the 1st draft and why the ending changed.

Dead Eyes
The film podcast about what it’s like to be an actor
Okay, Dead Eyes isn’t really a film podcast per se, but film podcast adjacent I’d reason.

Conor tries to solve the mystery and talks to fellow actors to discuss their auditioning experiences.
Listen to this episode where Conor talks to Zach Braff, Adam Scott and David Krumholtz about their failed auditions for Band of Brothers.
It Was A Sh*t Show
The film podcast about terrible film production stories
A lot happens between an idea for a movie to the final cut you see in the cinema. It Was A Sh*t Show peels back the curtains on the films which had disastrous, insane and sometimes dangerous productions.
The Blue Brothers is a cult film, but with the combination of Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi it’s hard to believe the film was finished in the end…

Movies wouldn’t be the same without music.
Think about The Shinning’s haunting sound design. The hotel and Jack would not be as terrifying without them.

Dreamgun Film Reads
The film podcast with hilarious reworked scripts
I saw Dreamgun at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival performing their rewrite of Goldeneye and it had me in tears.

From the founder of Den of Geek and all round nice guy comes Film Stories, a podcast that takes you behind the scenes of your favourite movies.
Simon Brew offers in-depth insight of films from start to finish, including problems encountered and who the lead role was initially offered to. Tom Hanks as Jerry Maguire anyone? Yeah me neither. Imagine Hanks shrieking ‘show me the money!’ *shivers.
If you enjoy Film Stories (I know you will) and you want more, there’s also the Film Stories monthly magazine (remember film magazines?). Film Stories focuses on giving young and new writers a chance. Every writer is paid (told you he was a nice guy). They even have a magazine for children.

The film podcast that ranks director’s movies
The Popcorn Auteur choose a director, discuss a handful of their movies and then attempt to rank them.

The film podcast looking back at the all-time best films
Hosted by actor Paul Scheer and film critic Amy Nicholson, Unspooled dives deep into the top 100 films on the American Film Institute’s list and decide whether they merit their place (Die Hard not on the list? Controversial).
It’s well researched, uncovering fascinating facts into the making of the movie, interviews with artists and experts as well as the segment ‘is there a Simpsons episode referencing this?’.
Listen to the episode of Indiana Jones and The Raiders of Lost Ark.
How Did This Get Made?
The film podcast that reviews the worst movies ever made
Ever watch a bad movie and wonder how it got the go-ahead to be made? Chances are the How Did This Get Made team have seen an even worse film. Their aim is to find and take the piss out of them. They made me realise how ridiculous Con-Air actually is…
