The cityscape view from the Eiffel Tower is pretty spectacular. Except there’s one problem – the Eiffel Tower isn’t included.
Fortunately, Paris has a few other places up it’s sleeve when it comes to getting an aerial view of the beautiful city – some are even free…
Basilica of the Sacré Coeur Church, Montmartre
Not only can you visit the spectacular architecture that is Basilica of the Sacré Cœur church, you also get a great view of Paris’ rooftops.
It’s a bit of a step climb to reach the church whether you tackle the many steps facing the church or climb the hills around the back like I did.
The view is worth it however, it being free makes the view even sweeter. If you’re lucky enough like I was, you’ll see Iya Traore performing unbelievable football skills with Paris as a back drop.
Tour Montparnasse
Parisians may think the building is ‘ugly’ and are critical of it’s architecture, but the views from the 56th floor of Tour Montparnasse are nothing short of beautiful.
It’s perhaps not well known, but this ‘viewing tower’ Tour Montparnasse is the 3rd tallest building in Paris. It must have a great view of Paris then right? It certainly does.
Take the elevator to the top and you’re rewarded with unrivalled panoramic views over Paris. From here you can see Montparnasse Cemetery and, of course, the Eiffel Tower. You can also go on the rooftop where the glass windows won’t ruin your photos. Adult tickets are €15.
Arc de Triomphe
I didn’t actually know you could climb to the top of the Arc De Triomphe. I just thought it was a glorified roundabout.
I was pleasantly surprised by the view of the surrounding area and beyond as it doesn’t look that tall from street level. On one side you have a clear view towards shopping heaven Avenue des Champs-Élysées and the other side you have La Grande Arche de la Défense.
I got to visit the Arc De Triomphe for free as I was under 26.
As you can see, I went to all three during the daytime but I’m sure they would be great photo opportunities when the sun is setting or at night when the city is lit up.
