Confused by the different types of luggage materials available? Me too.

Luggage material can affect the weight of your suitcase, how easy it is the clean, cost and how long you can realistically expect your luggage to last. Remember, if you buy cheap you buy twice (see our list of the best checked luggage).

I can recommend the Horizn Studios M5. You can now get 18% discount with no min spend using my discount code – HSxUncoverTravel. Visit the Horizn Studios website.

Turns out they all have their advantages and disadvantages so it really depends on what you need and how you travel.

Read on to find out what the five main types of luggage materials are, what type of luggage is most durable and which material is best for suitcase.

1. Polyester

Polyester is the best luggage material for its durability, water-resistance, and light weight. It is also hypoallergenic and has a smooth surface that makes it easy to clean. This material can withstand extreme temperatures and resist mildew and mold. It is also resistant to UV rays and chemicals.

2. Cotton

Cotton is the second best luggage material due to its softness, comfort, and breathability. It is also hypoeolgic and absorbs moisture from the air. It is lightweight and durable, but not waterproof.

3. Nylon

Nylon is the third best luggage material due to the fact that it is strong, durable, and comfortable. It is also hypopolar and resists mildew and mold. However, nylon is heavier than polyester and cotton.

4. Polypropylene (PP)

Polypropylene is a thermoplastic polymer that is used in many different applications including food packaging, medical devices, automotive parts, and even clothing. PP has been around since the early 1950s and was originally developed for use in making plastic bags. However, over time, PP has become popular for its ability to maintain shape and retain its properties at high temperatures. This makes PP a great choice for luggage.

5. Polycarbonate (PC)

Polycarbonate is a thermoplastic resin that can withstand extreme heat and cold. PC is often used in the manufacturing of car windows, lenses, and other safety equipment. Because of this, PC is commonly known as “safety glass”. In addition to being strong, PC is also lightweight and shatter-resistant. These qualities make PC a good candidate for luggage.
