So, you know you’re ready to travel, and somewhere between getting your visa, and leaving for your holiday, you need a list of what to pack, and what to leave at home. Take a vacation and explore everything that Cambodia has to offer, without worrying about what’s in your bag!

Health Records and Travel Insurance

Any time you leave the country you’re facing a higher risk of getting sick because you’re exposing your body to an entirely new environment. You’ve probably heard of people getting food poisoning or the age-old travel advice: “Don’t drink the water.” Although this has become more of a joke, there is some truth here.

The vaccinations that many of us received as children address the issues that would ail us from our drinking water, then we build immunity, and it doesn’t bother us anymore.

When you’re in a foreign country, you should always have a copy of your health records. There aren’t any required vaccines to get before you visit Cambodia. But if you do need medical attention, it will help the medical staff to know which vaccines and treatments you’ve already received.

On the same note, you should get travel insurance. It’s not as expensive as you might think and it’s cheaper than the medical bills you’ll receive for unexpected medical emergencies in any foreign country.

Electronics

This is a double-edged sword because there’s a lot that people pack that they don’t need. If you don’t work remotely, you won’t need:

  • iPad
  • Tablets
  • Laptops
  • iPods

For most people, your phone can store music, show emails, and connect you with your family.

You do need:

  • Travel sim card for your phone
  • Cell phone
  • Camera
  • Power adapters

There isn’t one particular type of electrical outlet in Cambodia. When you’re traveling, or on holiday in Cambodia, you’ll need a few adapters. The right adapter will keep your phone charged enough to satisfy nearly all of your daily technology needs.

Money

There is unbelievable stress on tourists when it comes to money. What currency does this country use? Do I need to get it before? What about my credit cards?

You can put your mind at ease, Cambodia trades in US dollars! You can also obtain a visa that will work in most major cities and moderately sized towns throughout Cambodia. Using your Visa throughout Cambodia is easy, and you can get it as soon as your plane lands or well before.

All you need is the photo you have on your passport and a registration fee of $20. That’s right; you can pay for your Visa travel card in US dollars.

You can also arrange for international use with your credit card company ahead of time. There is usually a fee for using your credit card out of the country. The international fee is usually an additional 2 or 3% every time you slide your card.

There is a lot more security in using plastic instead of cash in Cambodia. Like any country, tourists are more susceptible to some scams, and it’s much easier to say “no” to the person (allegedly) in need if you don’t have the cash they’re asking for.

The bottom line here is that you’re better off arranging for a visa card and traveling with minimal amounts of cash.

Before You Leave

Check this site out if you still need a visa, and double check your bag for the necessities. Don’t forget to leave:

  • Unnecessary medications
  • iPads, tablets, and laptops
  • Extra cash

At home! These items can lead to unwanted attention, but most importantly they’ll weigh your bag down. But, make sure that you have these items packed:

  • Medical records
  • Travel insurance
  • Power adapters
  • Visa card

Enjoy your vacation and experience Cambodia!
