We’re excited to have Ashley from Ashley On The Move answer our Five Travel Questions! Find out about a beautiful national park and which city in Portugal is her favourite!
Why do you love to travel?
I love to travel because the world is SO full of beautiful places, people, cultures, and foods. I feel the most alive at the top of a mountain overlooking a valley or trying a new food while surrounded by a unique culture. Travel pushes me out of my comfort zone and allows me to be constantly learning. I love to learn and traveling to different corners of the world forces me to constantly learn something new and keep an open mind.
Oh and did I mention the absolute beauty of the whole world!?!?
What destination is top of your bucket list?
Narrowing this down is basically impossible!!! I feel like I am adding a new destination to the list every day. But right now, I’d have to say Southeast Asia. It was pictures of Thailand and Cambodia that first really sparked my wanderlust almost 10 years ago. We had plans to get here before the pandemic but it just didn’t pan out. Hopefully soon!
Where is your most favorite place you have travelled to?
Another tough question! I would have to say Jackson Hole, Wyoming/Grand Teton National Park. Not only is it one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen, but it was the first big trip my husband and I went on together after getting married. It just holds a special place in my heart and includes ALL our favorite things: good breweries, epic hiking, and lots of chances for wildlife spotting!
What is your most favorite memory or experience whilst traveling?
To get a bit personal, back in college I studied abroad in Salamanca, Spain. This is the time where I discovered I struggle with anxiety. I was a mess almost the whole time I was there—difficulty sleeping, heart racing, the whole nine yards. I remember a trip to Lisbon, Portugal that completely changed the experience for me. I vividly recall standing on the edge of the Tagus River and just soaking in the beauty and the culture and just being able to fully feel how grateful I was for the experience of studying abroad. Lisbon is my favorite city (so far!) and part of it is because how I peace I felt after a tough few weeks. (But don’t take that to mean I didn’t love Spain—I did!)
What is your favorite photo from your travels?
I think this one is definitely overshared on my social media but I can’t get enough of this beautiful alpine lake in Grand Teton National Park!
