If you have chosen Byron Bay as your next holiday destination, you certainly wouldn’t be alone. Byron Bay is one of the most popular NSW regions, especially for families. There are indeed many beaches along this idyllic stretch of coastline, and to help you plan each day, here is our list of top beaches in Byron Bay.
Main Beach
The central beach location for families, Main Beach has everything, with great shopping and some of the best eateries in NSW, plus the beach itself is clean, safe and ideal for spending the day. There’s affordable car parking near Byron town centre, and when you’ve had enough of the beach, there is great shopping and nice restaurants where you can relax in the shade.
Clarkes Beach
About ten minutes’ stroll from Byron, this beach is less crowded and more suitable for families, and with a long sandbank, Clarkes Beach is a favourite for swimmers and snorkelers alike. If you are looking for ideal holiday accommodation in this region, it is easy to find Shirley Street beach houses for rent. A quick search online should lead you to that perfect place to hang out and relax.
The Pass
A 15-minute drive from Byron is The Pass, a great family hideaway that offers quiet little coves and shaded sandy areas, with shallow and very clean beaches. The sandbank offers protection for the kids, while dad can get out on the other side and enjoy the surfing size waves that break onto the sandbank. Don’t forget to climb the stairs to Fisherman’s Lookout, a small wooden platform that is a favourite with photographers, for obvious reasons, and watching a sunset from here is the end of a perfect day.
Wategos Beach
This rather small beach gets quite crowded at weekends, but it is perfect for one of your weekdays in Byron Bay. At the rear of the 600-yard beach is a shaded, wooded area where people BBQ and set out their picnic blankets and enjoy the fresh sea breeze. The Cape Byron walking track is a must, traversing along the cliffs to the Wategos Lighthouse, which is worth the climb, and when you are ready for a dip, the gorgeous ocean awaits.
